Geri Walker specializes in classic, contemporary and modern jazz dance, as well as ballet, lyrical and tap. She also loves teaching pre-dance, essential, creative movement, hip-hop and tumbling for young children. Geri has been working as both a teacher and
choreographer for the last 15 years, and began her life long journey as a dancer at the age of 3. She has preformed and choreographed for numerous productions and studios over the years. Geri is thrilled to share her love for dance with all of her students and her enthusiam is contagious. She is a very passionate and dynamic teacher and energizes everyone she meets. Geri loves to teach and she is constantly playing with new ideas to challenge her students and herself as artists and a dancers.
Geri started her dance education in Arizona at Nina Marlows School of Ballet, but wanting more than ballet moved on to Arizona’s premier dance and preforming arts center Betty Johnson’s School of Dance where she was exposed to jazz and tap dancing as well. She fell in love with the art and the life style as a dancer and could never get enough. Then before entering into middle school moved out to California where she started at Denisas School of dance where she went on to join the studio dance company. There she had the opportunity to preform in numerous shows and productions around central California throughout her teenage years. It was at Denisa’s School of dance where she began her teaching career, Geri instantly knew where her passion was and her calling in life. She started teaching pre-dance classes and then moved on to teenagers.
Geri then went on to move back to Arizona and and got a job teaching for the Maricopa County Community College system, for several years at Phoenix Community College, and a few semesters at Glendale Community College, and Paradise Valley Community college. Teaching a variety of classes including jazz, tap, hip hop, ballet, and a dance sampler class. Throughout her 10 year career in Arizona she has taught all around the valley at different dance studios, colleges, gymnastic centers (teaching dance to the gymnasts and tumbling), and at a few different high schools and elementary schools as a guest teacher for several weeks, and summer school preforming arts programs.
Geri is currently teaching at Bender Preforming Arts center in Phoenix, AZ ( formerly Betty Johnson’s School of Dance) celebrating our 35th year! And also for the last 2 years at Abby Bella Dance Studio in Scottsdale, AZ a new concept dance center all for adults. She loves teaching all ages and disciplines of dance, and is always working on new projects. Her main goal is to inspire dancers of all ages, backgrounds and disciplines to reach their ultimate potential on their dance journey.
At Abby Bella Dance Studio Geri teaches Jazz, Ballet, Tap and Choreography classes. She also teaches private and semi-private lessons in those disciplines as well to help students reach their personal
goals whether its brushing up on your technique or some specialty choreography . She recently choreographed a classic jazz dance for a wedding father/daughter dance and another classic jazz piece for a student competing in an Arizona Beauty Pageant.
She has studied at several colleges in California and Arizona as well to keep ideas fresh and fell in love with modern dancing, and was a part of the Scottsdale Community College Moving Company. For Geri the sky is the limit, and she has four children who also share her passion for dance, who now are following in her footsteps. She is also a musician and has played keyboards for the last 12 years with numerous local and internationally known reggae groups, and is now playing with her husband in their band Souls of Love. In her spare time she loves to spend time with family and friends, go to the beach and shop.
